The effect of mindfulness meditation on anxiety among justice-involved adolescents

Anxiety can harm behavior, social functioning, and the rehabilitation process, especially in adolescents in conflict with the law. This study aims to analyze the effect of mindfulness meditation therapy on anxiety levels in adolescents in conflict with the law at the Paramita Mataram Center. The study used a quantitative approach with a one-group pre-test post-test pre-experimental design. All adolescents who met the inclusion criteria were involved as research samples, with a total of 48 respondents through total sampling. Anxiety levels were measured before and after the intervention using a questionnaire. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test. The results showed a decrease in anxiety levels after mindfulness meditation therapy. The decrease was marked by a shift in the anxiety category from moderate to low or no anxiety. These findings indicate that mindfulness meditation is effective in helping adolescents improve emotional regulation and psychological awareness. This intervention has practical relevance as a promotive and preventive approach in mental health services for adolescents in conflict with the law.
