Abstract

Hypertension is the most common chronic health problem experienced by pre-elderly people, increasing their risk of cardiovascular disease. Acupressure, as a complementary therapy, is increasingly recognized as a supportive approach to blood pressure management, but knowledge among pre-elderly people remains uneven. This study aims to describe the level of knowledge among pre-elderly individuals regarding complementary acupressure therapy for blood pressure management. The study used a descriptive quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample consisted of 69 pre-elderly individuals selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire that measured respondents' understanding of the basic concepts of acupressure, its benefits, pressure points, and its role in blood pressure management. Data analysis was performed descriptively, presenting the frequency distributions and percentages of respondents' knowledge levels. The results showed that most respondents had a moderate level of knowledge, with a better understanding of the general benefits of acupressure than of its technical aspects. Pre-elderly people's knowledge of acupressure therapy still needs strengthening. The development of integrated health education should improve the safe and appropriate use of complementary therapies for blood pressure management in the pre-elderly group.
